Public Safety for Kern County

ComSerCo recently completed the installation of an 18-site radio communication system servicing all county government agencies in Kern County. A combined VHF/UHF voice and 800 mHz data system, this system is used primarly by the Kern County Sherrif and the Kern County Fire Department. ComSerCo was selected as a sub-contractor by Motorola. Having partnered on many projects in the past, Motorola chose ComSerCo because of their long-standing experience in project management and technical installation. The project was managed by ComSerCo's Orange County shop in Westminster, California, and they provided all manpower for the installation.

ComSerCo works with many public safety agencies. We have also recently upgraded the communications dispatch center of the City of Anaheim Police Department. And, in fact, the Westminster shop services most of the police and fire departments in Orange county, as well as the City of Downey Fire Deparment and the City of Beverly Hills Police and Fire Departments.

Motorola and ComSerCo Partnership in Orange County, California

In the year 2001, Motorola again approached ComSerCo to partner in public service as ComSerCo was appointed as a prime sub-contractor in the revamping of Orange County's vast radio system. The communications system covers all public agencies in the county, and included the build-out of all radio sites, as well as the installation of 10,000 mobile radios for all of the county's municipal services and every police, fire and sheriff's department.

ComSerCo provided steady project management, as well as the technical support services needed to optimize, upgrade and program radio equipment. Motorola provided the quality wireless communications equipment. The relationship continues today, as ComSerCo and Motorola join forces again to upgrade the Orange County radio system to a simulcast system. The project was completed in June of 2005.

San Bernardino School Police

ComSerCo recently partnered with the San Bernadino County Unified School District to provide mobile information workstations in all 22 of the district's police cars. The school district has 26 working police officers who exist to protect and serve the 56,000 children who attend school in the San Bernadino community These officers patrol the district's 56 campuses and school sites.

Thanks to a wireless mobile communications system and software installed specifically for the San Bernadino School District Police by ComSerCo, these special officers can now communicate without tying up dispatchers and radio frequencies. In the past, a dispatcher would radio a school patrol car, calling out all pertinent information in the hopes that the responding officer would remember it all. Now, the dispatcher types the request for service into his or her computer, and the details automatically appear on the patrol car screens, saving valuable time and keeping the radio lines open for true emergencies.

Previously the department was piggybacked into the San Bernadino Police and Sheriff's Department. Now the department will independently be hooked into state and national law enforcement databases, and will even have access to student records in the system in the near future so they don't have to tie up the radios in calling to the schools for necessary information. And everyone logged into the system, whether in a patrol car or at the station, can see where the officer is at all times, increasing accountability and effectiveness.
